Italians have a history of racial prejudice against blacks.

Last year, Osaze Osemwingie-Ero, a former Edo State Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, cried out regarding the plight of over 300 Nigerian youths ‘illegally’ detained in Italian prisons for contrived charges on mafia-related offences.

At a meeting with officials of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Mr Osemwingie-Ero disclosed that he learned about the plight of the innocent young Nigerians during his wrongful detention in Italy.

According to the former commissioner, the young Nigerians are held in Italian maximum prisons because they do not have the resources to access independent lawyers.

Mr. Francis Kwame Oppong

On behalf of the Ghana Union Association Puglia, I wish to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the murdered Nigerian brother in Civitanova. We say no to such barbaric act and we vehemently condemn it with all certainty. It is our hope that, the perpetrator will face the full rigors of the law. Also it is about time the Italian government gives a stern punishment to hate crimes to ward off future occurances. Additionally there must be punitive action on hate speeches against the black people in Italy by the populous, politicians and people in governance for their own agenda, because it is the fuel for hate crimes in the communities. It time to get over this business for cheap political votes and public appeal. Once again out heart felt condolences to the family and love once.
